Actualul muzeu este rezultat din contopirea unor muzee mai vechi. in 1886, este infiintat Muzeul de arta industriala a secuimii, apoi, in 1934, se infiinteaza Muzeul de arheologie si etnografie. Dupa 1945, s-a creat Muzeul de Istorie. Muzeul a fost reorg
